The interdisciplinary LMU Open Science Center (OSC) has the mission to promote and foster open research practices at the LMU and beyond. Open research practices encompasses e.g. preregistration of studies, sharing data, materials, analysis scripts for computational reproducibility, and providing the published results in an open access format. Overall, open research practices increase the transparency, efficiency, and credibility of research.
The OSC has 4 lines of work:
- provide peer-to-peer training
- build a community of practice to develop consensus and spread norms
- liaise with stakeholders to inform on the design of incentives and policies so they align with the adoption of open research practices
- evaluate research practices across disciplines through meta-research projects
We accept institutional memberships from departments, faculties, units, or central institutions of the LMU, which provide infrastructure or other services that facilitate the goals of the OSC. In practice, institutional members contribute as little as a statement of commitment to work towards the OSC goals - they then become Affiliated Institutional Members. Institutional Members are also encouraged to provide yearly funds to the OSC (depending on the size of the institution) - they then become Funding Institutional Members.
OSC Institutional Members that provide financial support get priority in the following activities:
- seats in multiple-day intensive courses
- seats in train-the-trainer programmes
- seats in short workshops offered during semester times
- consultations with graduate schools to integrate open research training in their curriculum
- consultations with hiring committees to redesign their research assessment criteria
- consultations to create public statements or internal recommendations for their teams
- grant writing consultations when applying for funds with open research requirements
Please let the OSC coordinator Dr. Malika Ihle malika.ihle@lmu.de , or the OSC managing director Prof. Felix Schönbrodt, Felix.Schoenbrodt@psy.lmu.de , know if you have any questions regarding our activities or if you want to discuss terms of membership (also see our ‘Join us!’ page).
